Bolton St ~ Former Drive Through Bank

Corner Scott and Bolton Streets, Newcastle.

This unremarkable building was unusually well-known when it was built as the city's first and perhaps the region's only drive-through bank. It was very popular with robbers. ES&A is an historic bank in Australia, established in 1852 as the English, Scottish and Australian Chartered Bank. In October 1970 with 570 branches it merged with ANZ. Presumably, therefore, this first photo below was taken in or before 1970 (if the rebranding was prompt).
