In November 2004, No. 501 Hunter Street was a derelict shop with upstairs tenants feeling the strain.
Spero Davias lists the site's history as starting next to a laneway in 1909 as A. E. Smith, House Furnishings. After a string of businesses it became in 1950 one of the city's eminent jewellers, Rogers, that survived four decades.

7 June 2009 ~ The clean-it-up painter couldn't bring himself to obliterate the reclining figure. Happily.
The building is gone and was, when I last looked, still a vacant block. C'est la vie...
